Another natural jewels of Mainit is to discover Lake Mainit. Lake Mainit is one of the largest, , and deepest lakes in the Philippines. It is a fresh water lake located in the borders of Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Norte in Caraga Region. The name “ Mainit” came from the hot spring called Mapaso Hot Spring which means hot. A few divers dived in this lake to discover the deepest beneath it. According to my sources, the maximum depth of Mainit lake is 223 meters (732 ft) and has a surface area of 173.40 square kilometers (66.95 sq mi).

Several exotic species of fish have been introduced in this lake, namely tilapia, casili, mudfish, gurami, bolinao, and common carp.  The most abundant crustaceans freshwater species found in the lake are the tiny shrimp or locally known as isik and freshwater prawn locally known as uyang.

Lake Mainit is one of the major sources of livelihood in the surrounding communities such as the Municipality of Alegria, Jabonga, Kitcharao, and of course, Municipality of Mainit. Lake Mainit also gives important benefits to the locals like, it provide water for irrigation, it helps to develop hydel power and aids in tourism and recreation.
